Cardiovascular System Infections

1. Infective Endocarditis

  • Mural endocarditisA rare infection that involves the heart's walls, or non-valvular endocardium.

A mycotic aneurysm is a serious, potentially life-threatening condition that occurs when a blood vessel wall becomes infected and weakens, causing the vessel to swell or balloon

Mitral valve regurgitation is a condition in which the heart's mitral valve doesn't close tightly, which allows blood to flow backward in the heart

. An intravenous catheter can cause infective endocarditis by providing a direct pathway for bacteria to enter the bloodstream, especially if the insertion site or catheter itself becomes infected, allowing bacteria to travel to the heart valves where they can attach and form vegetation, leading to an infection on the inner lining of the heart chambersthis is particularly concerning in situations where the catheter is placed in a central vein, allowing direct access to the heart.

Infective endocarditis is a rare but serious complication of prosthetic valve surgery that occurs when bacteria adhere to the valve during or after surgery

Petechiae  Tiny round, brown-purple spots due to bleeding under the skin, may be in a small area due to minor trauma, or widespread due to blood-clotting disorder.
