1. Infective Endocarditis
- Mural endocarditis: A rare infection that involves the heart's walls, or non-valvular endocardium.
Mitral valve regurgitation is a condition in which the heart's mitral valve doesn't close tightly, which allows blood to flow backward in the heart
. An intravenous catheter can cause infective endocarditis by providing a direct pathway for bacteria to enter the bloodstream, especially if the insertion site or catheter itself becomes infected, allowing bacteria to travel to the heart valves where they can attach and form vegetation, leading to an infection on the inner lining of the heart chambers; this is particularly concerning in situations where the catheter is placed in a central vein, allowing direct access to the heart.
Infective endocarditis is a rare but serious complication of prosthetic valve surgery that occurs when bacteria adhere to the valve during or after surgery
